We recently came across this great write-up on 42 Easy Remote Team Building Activities on virtual team building exercises. Good team building activities can be a vital way to build the relationships on your team, which can lead to increased productivity and improved employee health.

Just because a team is remote doesn’t mean you’re stuck only knowing each others email addresses. If you want people to be more engaged for your next virtual meeting, here are some of our fav ideas for virtual team building:

Draw the Picture – Virtual Team Building

Have a team member describe a picture and have the rest of the team draw out what they hear. This a great way to discuss different forms of communication and you have the fun of seeing everyone’s drawings at at the end of the meeting.

Share your Bucket List – Virtual Team Building

Ask your team members ‘what is on their bucket list?’ and have people share 3-5 of their answers. This will open up discussion on what team members value and could even give ideas for future company retreats.

Guess the Baby – Virtual Team Building

Ask your team to share a baby picture of themselves with the team. Everyone loves baby pictures, and everyone loves trying to guess who’s who in said baby pictures.

Grab a local Drink – Virtual Team Building

Treat remote employees to a cup of coffee or tea. Send them a gift card for a local coffee shop and get them to share a photo of themselves at the coffee shop.

Streaming Movie Club – Virtual Team Building

Start a video call and stream a movie. Keep the chat open so that team members can comment about the movie, specific scenes, or characters. An alternative would be to pick a movie as a group and discuss it the next day before a meeting; a movie club!

Shout-out to the Alliance Virtual Office team, a company comprised of teams of remote workers who focuses on building rapport virtually. For even more virtual team building ideas, check out the full list.
