Rock Island, IL - I spent the past weekend in Quad Cities, IL/IA for the 2012 Manager’s meeting for ComedySportz. It was 4 days of great discussion, introspective conversations and of course a ton of laughs.
One of the most impactful topics we discussed was the value of improv and comedy on our audiences. It seemed like every manager had stories to share of audience members, corporate workshop attendees and students in our classes all telling us how much we’ve helped them in their lives.
From the audience members who just needed a positive laugh after a tragedy in their life, to the corporate workshop attendee who was able to excel at work because of techniques learned in our workshop, to the students who gained confidence and self esteem through our classes, all of the stories were inspiring and heart-warming, and reminded me why I’m so proud to be part of the ComedySportz family.

Somerset, NJ - Humor That Works partnered with ComedySportz NYC to provide a fun-filled, action-packed improv workshop to a marketing team of a tri-state sales company this past week.
In the workshop, we covered the basics of improvisation and talked about how they applied to the business world, specifically marketing and sales. The entire group was a blast to work with and made the whole experience enjoyable. Shout out to the other CSz facilitators for doing a great job.
UPDATE: We got a review back from the organizer (found here on the CSz blog):
“Hi Jill,
Please pass along my thanks to all of the great coaches/facilitators we had on site, especially Drew. I received terrific feedback on the team building activities at our meeting, and I could tell by the laughter echoing through the halls that everyone was enjoying themselves. Over the next few weeks I even caught a few references to the games and activities in the halls. In my opinion, this was one of the most enjoyable team building exercises I’ve been a part of, and I’m so glad that we had the opportunity to work with you.
Best,
Brooke”

New York, NY – This summer I had the chance to team up with ComedySportz New York to teach improv at some of the summer camps in the greater New York City region.

It’s always a great experience to teach improvisation to kids, but to teach it to kids who will be counselors for younger children is even more exciting. Not only are you having fun with the groups, but you’re also teaching them a valuable skillset they can use to positively impact other people’s lives.
It was a great experience and I can’t wait to team up again next year to do the same thing.

Indianapolis, IN – Just as I did in 2009 and 2010, I attended the annual ComedySportz tournament this year in Indianapolis. In addition to attending a number of great workshops and performing in some hilarious shows, I also lead an improv workshop for fellow improvisers.
Leading a workshop for other improvisers is always exciting but extra challenging–they are more than willing to do the exercises, but they’ve also done so many before that you want to make sure you bring something new for them to learn. I focused on exercises we as improvisers can do on our own, when we don’t have the advantage of having fellow players to join us.
The workshop was very well received, with many people giving me the ultimate compliment: that they were going to “share and reapply” a lot of the concepts and teach them to their own teams. To learn more about the power of improv, check out our improv for business program.
